Frequently asked
The things makers ask us most, before their first pattern.
How do digital patterns work?
Our digital patterns are PDF files you download and print yourself - no waiting for the post. Each one includes the full pattern pieces and complete instructions, to print at home on US Letter or A4 paper or as large format files (A0, or 36″ × 48″ for the US). Some of our older patterns don't include as many file options, so check the pattern's listing for exactly what's included. New to PDFs? Our step-by-step guide walks you through printing and assembling.
Do your patterns include size layering?
As of April 2020 all new patterns are released with size layering, which lets you print only the sizes you want, and we're working through our catalogue to add it to older patterns. If a pattern includes size layering, it's clearly stated in its product information - if it isn't stated, that pattern isn't layered yet.
What sizes are your patterns available in?
Our patterns come in four ranges: Standard 0–20 and Curve 14–34 for women, plus Mini (children's sizes 3–12) and Maternity (XS–XL). Some Curve patterns currently run 14–30 while we add the final two sizes, and the available range is noted on each pattern. For full charts and how to find your size, visit our Sizing page.
Why do the Standard and Curve ranges overlap?
Sizes 14–20 appear in both ranges on purpose, so no one is left stuck between the two. They're drafted on different blocks for different proportions: Standard for about a 2″ (5 cm) difference between your upper and full bust, and Curve for around 4″ (10 cm), with the whole shape considered for curvier figures. If you fall in the overlap, choose the range that best matches your bust proportion and how you like your clothes to fit.
How is my order shipped, and when can I expect it?
Australian orders are shipped from our studio in Perth via Australia Post and generally arrive in about a week. All other orders ship from our warehouse in the USA: 2–5 business days within the US, and 2–4 weeks by economy shipping or 5–10 business days by express courier internationally. These time frames are a rough estimate only. Digital patterns are downloaded, so there's nothing to wait for.
