My Favorite Jeans Pattern

The Dawn Curve jeans fit perfectly with only one waist adjustment. So far I have made them in linen, denim, and canvas—fun and satisfying to sew. Thank you Megan Nielsen.

A regular, high rise, non-stretch jeans pattern?!?!?!

I have been looking for a plain, normal, at-waist, straight legged pair of jeans which would fit my tall backside and short legs since 2002.
These are so, so, so fantastic. The instructions are clear and well illustrated. The print-at-home pattern was easy enough to assemble and the grading between sizes convenient. Fitting alterations I needed were minimal but assisted by the clarity of the pattern outlines.
I have worn my jeans about 16 of the last 21 days. I really am thrilled by how they came out and this pattern contributed immensely to that. I fit in the overlap between curve and regular sizes at 45-35-45 with a 30 inch thigh so I went for the larger set so I could grade out at the inner leg, if anyone else needs to know that. It worked great. I was also able to make the rise higher by following the waistline three sizes above my own, which was convenient.
12 oz denim made me a beautiful pair of jeans, and I will be making more in a heavier fabric for more strenuous yard work as well as lighter for shorts and summer wear.
It is so fantastic to not have my pants head for my ankles every time I bend or move, and I really cannot thank you enough for making my holy grail sewing project a reality.

They are so perfect, and I love them very much, and I really like the finished garment measurements.

All around great pattern!!!

I am a curvy, flat bottom person which means lots of adjustments. The pattern was easy to hack as needed for me.

I have been a garment sewist for about 42 years and this pattern has some of the best written instructions I have ever read. I truly feel someone new to garment sewing could easily make a pair of jeans with those instructions.

Best extended size non-stretch jeans!

I should start by saying that I’ve made jeans before, but this was my first go at making non-stretch jeans.

If you're interested in a full review, I wrote a blog post about it for the Curvy Sewing Collective. There's lots more info and photos there: https://curvysewingcollective.com/pattern-review-dawn-curve-jeans/

I love working with denim and I always enjoy more involved patterns – this fits that bill. On the whole, the pattern is excellent. The instructions were excellent. Megan Nielsen does a truly wonderful job with all the different fly options in particular. I’ve always done zipper flies, but the button fly option has always been interesting to me. I never thought I could pull off an exposed button fly due to my tummy – but as long as I put that extra button in the fly, it looks great and it really keeps me secure in the jeans. Equally, these jeans have a sewn-in fly, meaning that all the fly pieces are separate instead of cut out attached to the front pieces of the jeans (if you’ve sewn the Cashmerette Ames Jeans, these are different). I definitely prefer this method as I feel I have more control over my pattern pieces and the final look of the jeans. The pockets are nice and big, big enough to fit my phone and then some.

It might take a little time to get the perfect fit, but it's absolutely worth it!
