Bias cut skirt without a zip? Brilliant

I’ve been a huge Megan Nielsen fan since discovering her patterns several years ago. Wattle was bought at the same time as Flint, Floreat & Jarrah in an introductory offer from a physical & on-line shop in the U.K. back in 2018. Surprisingly, although the Wattle really attracted me to the bundle (along with the Flint due to their unique fastening method) I only got round to sewing it up this year for my daughter’s April birthday. It sews up easily like its Flint sibling and as usual the instructions are clear to understand. I made view A, Bias cut midi length. It drapes beautifully, the waistband is comfortable and the pockets are flattering on a pair shape body like mine and my daughters, much kinder than in seam pockets which add bulk in an already ample area. 😂 I used a mid weight linen that has an incredible drape, it swishes around my daughters legs and hangs oh so well. Love it.

    Really Clever!

I love how much more comfortable it is to wear a skirt without a zipper. The closure on the waistband combined with the semi-open pocket is very clever! As an added bonus, the pockets are big enough to be useful. The included finished garment measurements and thorough size chart meant I had no trouble picking my best size right off the bat-- I could have worn my toile, it fit so well!

    Lovely!

First off, I’m a beginner sewer as of six weeks ago. With that in mind, I found the pattern super simple to follow with the help of this site’s short Wattle tutorials. I didn’t get the button on the correct side of the skirt, but it still fits and looks great. I plan to make more skirts using this pattern and learn how to add a lining. Fabric was purchased from Harts Fabric located in Santa Cruz, CA.

Perfect make for a confident beginner.

Loved making the Wattle Skirt - with no zip a straightforward sewing project for a relative newbie like me. I need all of my clothes to have pockets so this was not only the perfect make but the perfect style for me.

    My Attlevin Georgette

Great pattern. I did a bit of a hack: no pockets, no closure, elastic waistband, and because Georgette fabric drapes so beautifully, I did a handkerchief hem and left it uneven.

    Wattle skirt

I’m so happy with the way my skirt turned out and already bought more fabric to try other variations. The sew along pictures helped me understand whatever I didn’t understand from the written instructions.

    Love my Wattle skirt!

The Wattle pattern is so well explained and easy to follow - I am a beginner dressmaker but I was able to make a skirt that I love and fits perfectly with no problems. I am so pleased with the result and I appreciate that it doesn’t require acres of fabric like a circle skirt. I will be making this again for sure!

    Versatile skirt pattern

I made view b of the wattle skirt which has pleats and a full skirt. The side button closure is very clever and easy to sew. I think this is a very versatile pattern and you could achieve different looks depending on the fabric choice. It also has pockets!

    Wattle

I’ve been returning to sewing after years of being too busy and I’m loving her patterns. I do not like pdf patterns so I’m pleased to have an option. Her instructions and illustrations are very good. I will look forward to trying others

    Fast and easy to follow!

I'm really happy with this pattern, from the fast construction to the absolutely huge pockets. Hems get done really quickly with a rolled hem foot.

    Swish, swish

I have been looking for a pattern for a bias-cut skirt for months. Also wanted one without darts and with a comfortable flat waist that wasn't elastic. Wattle was it. Love the added detail of the waist tie which looks great and allows for maximum comfort. And it swishes beautifully. Thanks so much for designing it.

How lovely to have a skirt without a zip! I've never made a bias skirt before but this was super simple and I love the pockets and the button waist closure. Definitely plan to make more of these!

    Great skirt

Perfect instructions for a non-very-experienced sewer. Worked really well. And the zipless pocket opening waistband is brilliant!!!!!!! Great purchase

Lovely Skirt - runs a little big

I made two of these skirts - one in white linen and the other in a pink plaid. They are both lovely and came together quickly. The pattern did run a little big. I had to take it in a good bit at the waist.
