Dawn jeans (4 in 1!) pattern

​When tackling any structured garment, I always strongly advocate for sewing a toile (muslin) first, and these jeans are no exception. Denim requires precision, making a test garment essential before cutting into your final yardage. Taking the time to dial in the fit on a toile is what elevates the final piece from simply handmade to truly professional.

​For petite sewists, paying close attention to the pattern's vertical proportions is a critical part of that fitting phase. At 5' 1", I found that evaluating the seat and back rise length is a mandatory step. Without a proactive adjustment, the back profile can run too long on a shorter frame, leading to excess fabric and an imprecise fit through the seat.
​Once you make those personalized adjustments to the seat length, the drafting is impeccable. If you are willing to invest the time in the initial fitting process, the Dawn pattern rewards you with a beautifully constructed, endlessly adaptable pair of jeans.

Love this pattern, first time ever making jeans with black denim and orange Topstitch and found this pattern easy to follow and a great fit. I made the straight leg version 14-16 and graded the hips across the two sizes, made the waistband larger and really loved the result. Only thing I would change is to sew the belt loops into the waistband top when stitching together which will be tricky but neater for me..

The very first pair I sewed up was something of a revelation. I just couldn’t believe it fit so well out of the box! I have since made the taper version x 2, the straight version x 2. I have even made the above in a slight stretch a size down and I think they might be my favorite stretch jeans pattern too! My only issues might be that the fly zip sits a little too close to the edge of the fly and can peek out (I have since changed my approach so it sits deeper) and I’m currently making the wide leg version and, perhaps given my height (5’3”) I feel like I’m drowning. A relaxed but not enormous leg would be a great 5th option!

I have made....at least 5 pairs of Dawn Jeans. This is a definitely TNT pattern. I bought it twice because the first time I bought it in paper and cut it out. I'm now a bigger size so I bought the PDF version this round. I don't mind paying twice to support the designer for something that I get so much use out of.

Next up I made these jeans in the straight leg, zipper fly version. So, so happy with these and will definitely make them again. Shortened waist 1.5cm and leg 5cm. I have KATM rivets but unable to source the setter at the moment.

I bought the Dawn jeans pattern to make some shorts and later a pair of jeans. My thinking was the $5 remnant of denim would make a great pair of summer shorts as well as being a wearable toile for the jeans. I shortened the waist by 1.5cm due to my 163cm height otherwise a straight size 12. The fly construction was different to anything I’ve done before and it turned out very nice. Next time I would probably lengthen the leg by 2-4cm as a personal choice due to age. ☺️
I never thought I’d even consider having 2 sewing machines but after changing from regular to topstitch thread many times I’m thinking it’s be a great idea. 😅

Stunning jeans pattern! The fit is so good, no problems with the crotch area (which I often have). I love that there are so many leg options, my favourite is straight leg, which is just perfect. I have already sewn 5 pairs despite being 4 months postpartum with second baby. I love sewing these jeans so much I just have to find time for it :).

I’ve recently made two pairs of straight leg Dawn jeans. The instructions were clear, and the jeans fit well with some normal modifications for my height. They are so comfortable and make me feel stylish! I can’t wait to try out the different styles included in the pattern.

The idea of making jeans terrified me, but this pattern made it a fun challenge! Instructions are clear, and I was able to reference the accompanying sew-along on the blog if I got stuck. I’m obsessed with the fit of these jeans. I made view b (straight leg) and graded between my hip and waist, adding a bit to the center back rise as well. I’ll be making another pair for sure!

This was the first pair of jeans I'd ever made and I was so nervous going into it - the fly looked a little out of my league - however the step by step instructions were so clear and the booklet that came with the pattern was so easy to read and understand that all my worries melted away.
I used a denim with a little bit of give (so I expected some parts to look rough) but I honestly made the best pair of jeans I've ever owned. The tapered leg looks cool with crisp white trainers OR a heel, and the pockets are big enough for my phone.
I used a super funky pocket lining and was worried it would show when finished, but the instructions included little hints like understitiching and reminded me to press as I went.
I loved this so much I went out and bought more denim the same day I completed them.

I even tried studs for the first time! Just bought three more patterns without a single concern about fit or style as these jeans sold me on the whole brand.

I'd probably be classified as someone with intermediate sewing skills and I've been looking for projects to boost my skills beyond dresses, quilts, and a variety of shirts. So I decided to tackle my four biggest sewing intimidations this year (knit fabric, significant pattern and dart manipulation, zippers, and pants) and this is the pattern I chose for tackling pants (obviously). I made a straight size 14 short with a zip fly and had no problems following the instructions.
The pattern pieces fit well together when sewing and everything is clearly marked on them. I did find the printing layout a little confusing to piece together compared to other companies, but it's still quite manageable. I had fun with pocket topstitching and though they aren't exactly the same it's close enough for me! The fit is pretty good, definitely comparable to ready made for me. So that's a win. I'll play with fit when I make full-length jeans soon.

I am still fairly new to sewing and I found the instructions very easy to follow and very detailed. I love that there are 4 patterns in one. I made a size 10 straight leg with no adjustments and they are the perfect fit. I already have fabric to make two more pairs! This is a great jeans pattern, would highly recommend!

Really good instructions and love that there are 4 variations in 1 pattern. They've come out just as I wanted.

I've made two pairs off this pattern. I'm an experienced seamstress but this is the first time I've made jeans! I made a pair of wide leg crops first, with some minor pattern adjustments based on my measurements (grade between sizes waist to hip). Came out very well! I made several more fine-tuning adjustments before making a second pair, this time the tapered style. I always end up making a sway-back alteration: lower back waistline, raise front. The other tweak I made was to cut the crotch seam/upper inseam a bit deeper, maybe a half inch total extra in the crotch and thigh. Overall an excellent pattern that I anticipate using many times!

I loved this process so much! I did make a Toile first and decided to grade about 3 different sizes and removed about 3/4" from the back yoke.

I made Version B. They fit really well and I have received many compliments on them. I will lower the rise in the front next time a bit as I prefer a lower rise on my belly! All in all a great fit! Thanks for a good experience and a fun pattern. Can’t wait to try the other versions.
