Mini Tania culottes pattern
The only thing more awesome than Tania culottes are Mini Tania culottes! These child-size versions of my popular Tania pattern were inspired by my eldest daughter, who loves skirts but also loves to run, jump and do crazy stuff - culottes are the answer to the cute vs practical debate. They feel like a skirt, with hidden centre front and back pleats and a wonderful drape, and a comfy elastic waistband in place of the zip. Make them in shorts, knee or midi length.

A quick sew. Made from from what I already had, no unusual notions required.
My 10yo has really been wanting a pair of culottes even though they’re not on her school’s fashion runway currently. If I make them again I’d add some really deep pockets. And the longest version requires more fabric than trousers but less than a circle skirt. So I would coordinate two separate fabrics from my stash.
Can’t wait to make these for my Granddaughter.

It was sooo much easier for us to make a pair of pants then the very stressful and emotional trip to the shops to buy something ready made. Will be making a few, even have a request from the mother-in-law for a pair :)

These culottes came together so nicely, the instructions were very clear and easy to follow. I’d definitely recommend this pattern for any level of sewist, I felt completely supported by the directions throughout the process.
It didn’t come with pockets, so I had to draft my own, and the fabric requirements are VERY generous, I got 2 pairs of size2/3 version 2 out of 2m, rather than the 3.2 recommended.
Overall, I ended up with two really cute, professional looking pairs of culottes. If I’d done the hems by machine I think it would have taken an evening all up. It was a really pleasant project, and I’d highly recommend it.
What a great design Megan! I made 3 for my granddaughters who live in Scotland and have an outdoors lifestyle. These will be great for the active girls. Pattern really easy to follow and made up beautifully. Thank you
My daughter loves to wear twirly skirts. This pattern gives her some twirl while also offering more coverage and practicality since they're secretly pants! Love the elastic waistband-makes it a quick sew.
